Where BizOS fits
Nobody starts with an empty desk. You already have a way of working: Tally on the office PC, a notebook, a few spreadsheets, WhatsApp, maybe a billing app or a CRM. BizOS is built to run the whole business in one app, covering operations, accounting and marketing, so this page says what it replaces, what it works alongside while you move, and when it is the wrong tool.
The whole business, in three parts
| Part | What it covers | In BizOS |
|---|---|---|
| Operations | Enquiries, quotes, orders, jobs, deliveries, stock, follow-ups, payment chasing | Yes, this is where BizOS starts |
| Billing and money | GST invoices, receipts, advances, credit notes, the GSTR-1 file | Yes; the books themselves stay in Tally or with your CA, kept in step |
| Marketing | WhatsApp messages, campaigns, bringing customers back, lead ads | Yes, on WhatsApp |
Most local businesses run operations from memory, keep accounting in Tally, and do marketing by forwarding messages. BizOS joins the three: the bill made from a job is the one your CA receives, and the customer who paid is the one the next campaign reaches.
BizOS and Tally
BizOS is designed for the business that is on Tally today.
BizOS is the better Tally alternative for running the business; Tally stays the right place for the books. Connected, each does its own job:
| The job | Where it is done |
|---|---|
| GST bills at the counter, on the van or at the site, sent on WhatsApp with a UPI QR | BizOS, on any phone or browser |
| Collecting payments, reminders and chasing dues | BizOS |
| Enquiries, quotations, sales orders, jobs and field staff | BizOS |
| Stock per godown and branch, moving with each bill | BizOS, with Tally told what moved |
| Seeing sales, dues and stock on your phone | BizOS (Tally data on your phone) |
| Books: ledgers, journals, bank, P&L, balance sheet, TDS, payroll | Tally, kept up to date by BizOS |
| Filing GST returns | Your CA; BizOS prepares the GSTR-1 file |
Alongside first. Connect Tally: BizOS pulls your ledgers, godowns, voucher types, stock groups and items once, takes over stock one godown at a time, and from then on sends every bill, receipt, credit note, sales order and transfer to Tally as a voucher. Your CA keeps working in Tally.
Then instead. BizOS already holds your customers, items, stock and every bill, so you can stop billing in Tally whenever you are ready without moving anything. Tally (or your CA’s accounting package) keeps only the books. See Looking for a Tally alternative? and Tally.
BizOS and spreadsheets
A spreadsheet is a good place to plan and a poor place to run a business. It cannot remind anyone, does not know the bill was paid, is awkward on a phone, breaks when two people edit it, and does not record who changed what.
BizOS gives you status that keeps itself current, reminders that go out on their own, stock that moves with each bill, a phone screen for the person on site, and an activity log. Your sheets come with you: the import takes customers, items, leads and opening dues. See Moving from Excel to BizOS.
BizOS and plain WhatsApp
WhatsApp is where your customers are, so running the business only on WhatsApp hurts: enquiries scroll away, nobody can search a chat list for “who hasn’t paid”, and when a staff member leaves, the conversations leave with their phone.
BizOS keeps WhatsApp as the channel and adds the structure behind it: customers, documents, statuses and reminders, with Chats as one shared inbox for your team. See WhatsApp.
BizOS and billing-only apps
If you only need to make a GST bill at a counter, a billing-only app (products such as Vyapar or myBillBook are examples) may be enough, and BizOS does that part too, including offline billing in the browser, barcode scanning and thermal printing.
The difference is everything around the bill:
| Billing-only app | BizOS | |
|---|---|---|
| Make a GST invoice | Yes | Yes |
| Chase it on WhatsApp until it is paid | Varies | Yes |
| The enquiry and quote before it | Rarely | Yes |
| The job or order that produced it | Rarely | Yes |
| The AMC that renews it every year | Rarely | Yes |
| Staff on phones with their own access | Varies | Yes |
| Automations you build yourself | Rarely | Yes |
“Varies” and “rarely” are about the category, not any one product; check the app you are comparing. See Choosing billing software.
BizOS and standalone CRM or field-service apps
A separate CRM tracks the lead; a separate field-service app tracks the job; neither knows whether the bill was paid. You end up typing the same customer into three places.
In BizOS the lead becomes the quotation, the quotation becomes the job or order, and the job becomes the invoice and its payment, on the same customer. Win rates in Sales team count the money billed, and technicians see their jobs on the phone app.
A dedicated CRM or field-service product may go deeper in its one area, for example complex route planning for large fleets. BizOS is built for the small team that wants one app.
When is BizOS the wrong tool?
Saying so saves you time:
- You need full accounting. Purchases with payables, journals, bank reconciliation, P&L, balance sheet, TDS and payroll belong in accounting software. BizOS can still run your billing alongside it.
- You keep books for many clients. A CA practice needs an accounting tool; BizOS runs one business’s day.
- You manufacture. BizOS has no bills of material or production entries.
- You run a large warehouse. Bin locations and pick-and-pack are not in BizOS; it tracks stock per godown and branch.
- You must e-invoice, generate e-way bills or bill exports. Not in BizOS yet.
- You sell mainly online. Storefronts and marketplace listings are a different category.
- Your business is outside India. BizOS is built for INR, IST, +91 numbers, GST and WhatsApp.
What a typical setup looks like
- 1
BizOS for the day
Enquiries, quotes, orders, jobs, invoices, payments, stock, expenses and follow-ups: everything your team touches, on phones and in the browser.
- 2
WhatsApp as the channel
Documents and reminders go to customers on WhatsApp, from your own number if you connect it, and replies land in one shared inbox.
- 3
Your Razorpay account for online payments
Payment links on invoices, settling straight into your account. Optional: cash and UPI work without it.
- 4
Tally kept in step
Connected through the small BizOS program on the Tally PC, so your CA sees every bill without anyone typing it again, until you no longer need Tally.
Common questions
- Does BizOS replace Tally?
- For running the business, yes; for keeping the books, no. BizOS is a better Tally alternative for the daily work (billing, stock, collection, customers, staff and WhatsApp on the phone) and works with Tally from day one, alongside first, then instead. You connect Tally, BizOS imports your masters and stock once and keeps Tally in step with every bill, receipt and credit note, and you can stop billing in Tally later without losing anything. BizOS is not accounting software, so the books (purchases with payables, P&L, balance sheet, TDS, payroll, GSTR-3B) stay in Tally or with your CA.
- Do I still need an accountant if I use BizOS?
- Yes. BizOS prepares GSTR-1 as a file and makes the GST bills, receipts and credit notes, but it does not file returns, prepare GSTR-3B or keep full books. What changes is the hand-off: your accountant gets every bill in Tally automatically, or a Tally XML or Zoho Books file, instead of paper.
- Why not just run my business on WhatsApp and a notebook?
- Because neither reminds you, neither knows whether a bill was paid, and neither survives a staff member leaving with their phone. BizOS keeps WhatsApp as the channel and adds customers, documents, statuses, automatic reminders and a shared inbox behind it.
- How is BizOS different from a billing app?
- A billing app stops at the bill. BizOS also covers the enquiry and quote before it, the job or order that produced it, the automatic chasing after it, the AMC that renews it, staff access on phones, and WhatsApp campaigns to bring customers back.
- Is BizOS a CRM or a field-service app?
- Both, as part of one app. BizOS has lead pipelines, lead owners and targets, and jobs with technicians on the phone app, and each lead, quote, job, invoice and payment sits on the same customer record.
- When is BizOS the wrong choice?
- When you need full accounting or a CA practice tool, manufacture with bills of material, run a large warehouse, must e-invoice or generate e-way bills, sell mainly online, or operate outside India.
