Looking for a Tally alternative?

“Tally sits on one PC in the office. My staff can’t bill from their phones, I can’t see today’s sales when I’m out, and every bill is typed twice.” Tally is accounting software: it is very good at keeping your books. What it was never built to do is run your business day — the counter, the van, the site, the customer who hasn’t paid, the staff in the field. BizOS is the Tally alternative for running the whole business. It is not another accounting package: it moves billing, stock, payment collection, customers, staff and WhatsApp onto your phone, and keeps Tally in step so your CA keeps the books exactly where they are.

Tally or BizOS: which job goes where?

When you use both, each does the job it is built for:

The jobWhere it is doneWhy
Making GST bills at the counter, on the van or at the siteBizOSOn any phone or browser, sent on WhatsApp with a UPI QR and payment link
Collecting payments and chasing duesBizOSAutomatic WhatsApp reminders, a follow-up list, numbered receipts, the staff cash drawer
Enquiries, quotations and sales ordersBizOSLeads from IndiaMART, Justdial and Facebook; quotes the customer accepts from a link
Jobs and field staffBizOSField technicians see only their own jobs on the phone
Stock per godown and branchBizOSMoves as you bill; Tally is told what moved
Staff accessBizOSSix roles decide what each person sees and can change
Books: ledgers, journals, bank, P&L, balance sheet, TDS, payrollTallyYour CA’s work, kept up to date by BizOS

That is why BizOS is the better alternative for running the business and Tally stays the right place for the books. With the two connected, you get both without typing anything twice.

What do people usually want instead of Tally?

Most owners who search for a Tally alternative are not unhappy with Tally’s accounting. They are unhappy with running the day in it:

What owners ask forWhat BizOS does
Bill from anywhere, not one office PCWorks in any browser and in the Android and iPhone app; your Tally data comes with it (Tally data on your phone)
Staff billing on their phones, each seeing only their partSix fixed roles; a field technician sees only the jobs given to them
Send the bill on WhatsApp, get paid by UPIBills go out as a link on WhatsApp, with a UPI QR and an optional payment link on your own Razorpay account
Stop typing the same bill twiceA bill made in BizOS reaches Tally as a voucher by itself
Chase dues without calling everyonePayment reminders on WhatsApp, 3 days before, on, and 3 and 7 days after the due date by default
Simpler GST billingGST follows your registration; CGST + SGST or IGST is worked out from the GSTINs; rates can be typed including GST (GST billing)
Jobs, enquiries and follow-ups, not just vouchersLeads, quotations, jobs, AMC contracts and follow-ups in the same app

That is where BizOS starts: running the day. The books stay in Tally, kept in step automatically, for as long as you or your CA want them there.

How does “alongside first, then instead” work?

  1. 1

    Connect Tally

In BizOS open Settings, then Connections & AI, then Tally, and start the setup. Install the small BizOS program (BizOS support gives you the installer) on the Windows PC that runs TallyPrime and pair it with the code BizOS shows. Tally has to be open with your company loaded; Tally setup lists the one Tally setting to switch on.

  2. 2

    Bring in your masters once

The setup wizard pulls your Tally ledgers, godowns, voucher types and stock groups, and you match them to BizOS: each godown to a stock location, each voucher type to a branch. Nothing is pushed to Tally while you are in setup.

  3. 3

Choose what syncs and from when

Pick, for each kind of record, whether it goes BizOS to Tally, Tally to BizOS, both ways or not at all, and the date vouchers sync from. 1 April of the current financial year is the usual choice; ask your CA if unsure.

  4. 4

    Continue your bill numbers

BizOS can carry on from your last Tally bill number, and each BizOS series can name the Tally voucher type its bills go into, so your numbering does not restart at 1.

  5. 5

Take over stock one godown at a time

When a godown goes live, BizOS takes Tally’s quantity there as at yesterday and owns the quantity from today. Godowns not live yet stay in Tally and hold nothing up.

  6. 6

Bill in BizOS, keep Tally in step

Bills, receipts, credit notes, sales orders and branch transfers made in BizOS reach Tally as vouchers. Your CA keeps working in Tally as before.

  7. 7

Stop using Tally when you are ready

Because BizOS already holds your customers, items, stock and every bill, there is nothing to move when you stop. Keep Tally, or another accounting package, only for the books BizOS does not keep.

The details are on Tally setup, Tally stock & godowns and Tally companies, ledgers & vouchers. If something does not line up, Tally troubleshooting explains each warning.

Why BizOS owns the stock quantity

Stock moves at the counter, on the van and at the site, which is where BizOS is used. If BizOS and Tally both decided the quantity, every bill would raise the question of which one to believe. So once a godown is live, BizOS holds the number and tells Tally what moved, naming the godown on each line.

What stays in Tally with your CA

BizOS runs the business; it is not an accounting package, so the books stay with Tally and your CA. This list is checked against the product as of October 2026 — keep Tally (or your CA’s accounting package) for these, and BizOS keeps it fed with every bill, receipt and credit note.

Stays in Tally or with your CAHow BizOS fits around it
Purchase bills and a supplier ledger (payables, supplier payments, input tax credit)Keep purchases in Tally. BizOS has suppliers only as contacts for reorder lists and stock-in
Journal vouchers and a full general ledgerTally
Trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheetTally. BizOS reports show sales, dues, expenses and a sales-minus-expenses view, which is not a P&L
Bank reconciliationTally
TDS and payrollTally or your CA
GSTR-3B, and filing any returnYour CA. BizOS prepares GSTR-1 as a file; the upload is yours
E-invoice (IRN) and e-way bill generationThe government portals or Tally. BizOS records an e-way bill number on a transfer but generates nothing
Export / SEZ invoices, reverse charge, debit notes, return amendmentsNot in BizOS’s GSTR-1; add them on the portal
Composition schemeBizOS has no composition setting: a registered business charges GST on every bill
Currencies other than the rupeeBizOS bills in INR only

Who BizOS is not for

Be honest with yourself here; a bad fit costs more than it saves.

  • A CA firm keeping books for many clients. BizOS runs one business’s day; it is not an accounting practice tool. Keep Tally, and let clients who use BizOS send you their data.
  • A manufacturer that needs bills of material and production entries. BizOS has no BOM or manufacturing journal.
  • A business that only needs its books kept (purchases, payables, bank, P&L, payroll, TDS) and has no daily selling, stock or staff to run. That is Tally’s job, not BizOS’s.
  • An exporter, an SEZ supplier or a business that must e-invoice. Those documents are not in BizOS yet.
  • A business outside India. BizOS is built for rupees, IST, Indian GST and +91 phone numbers.

If you are a shop, distributor, service business or contractor who needs to bill, collect, track stock, manage staff and follow up, BizOS is the better fit — and Tally keeps the books alongside it.

What it costs

Tally Sync is a module of ₹2,499 a year (₹4,998 for three years) on top of the ₹2,999 Billing base, and it is included in the Complete bundle (₹19,999 a year). All prices are before 18% GST, and the prices in the app are the ones that apply. Every new business gets a 30-day trial. See Plans & billing.

Not ready to connect? The same module gives your CA a monthly Tally XML or Zoho Books export instead.

Common questions

Is BizOS a Tally alternative?
Yes, for running the whole business. BizOS is not another accounting package: it moves billing, stock, payment collection, customers, leads, jobs, staff and WhatsApp onto your phone and any browser, so the business no longer waits on the office PC. It connects to TallyPrime, imports your customers, items and stock once and sends every bill made in BizOS into Tally, so your CA keeps the books in Tally. Books, P&L, balance sheet, TDS, payroll and GSTR-3B stay with Tally or your CA.
What is the best Tally alternative for a small business in India?
If the problem is running the business rather than keeping the books, BizOS is built for it: GST billing on the phone, bills sent on WhatsApp with a UPI QR, automatic payment reminders, stock per godown, staff roles, leads, quotations and jobs in one app, at ₹2,999 a year for the Billing base before GST with a free platform and a 30-day trial. It connects to TallyPrime so your CA keeps the books there. If you only need accounting, stay with an accounting package.
Can I use BizOS and Tally at the same time?
Yes, and that is how BizOS expects you to start. A small Windows program on the Tally PC sends bills, receipts, credit notes and sales orders made in BizOS into Tally as vouchers, and can bring Tally's own entries into BizOS. You choose what flows each way.
Will my Tally stock and godowns come into BizOS?
Yes. BizOS pulls your godowns during setup and you match each to a stock location. When a godown goes live, BizOS takes Tally's quantity there as at the day before and owns the quantity from then on, sending every sale and transfer back to Tally with the godown named. Godowns go live one at a time.
Will my bill numbers restart if I move billing from Tally to BizOS?
No. BizOS can continue a series from your last Tally number, and each BizOS series can name the Tally voucher type its bills are pushed into, so the numbering carries on.
Does BizOS file GST returns?
No. BizOS prepares the GSTR-1 file for the GST portal from the bills and credit notes it issued, per GSTIN, but you or your CA upload it. GSTR-3B, e-invoice IRNs and e-way bills are not done in BizOS.
Does BizOS handle purchase bills?
Not as bills with a supplier ledger. In BizOS you record stock coming in, and suppliers are contacts for reorder lists. If you need payables, input tax credit and supplier payments, keep entering purchases in Tally; at a godown that is live in BizOS those purchases also move BizOS stock.
Can I see Tally data on my phone with BizOS?
Yes, through BizOS. Connected to TallyPrime, BizOS brings in your customers, items, godowns, stock and the bills and receipts made in Tally, so you see who owes you, what you sold and what is in stock on Android or iPhone, and you can bill and collect from the phone too. Tally's accounting reports such as P&L and balance sheet stay in Tally. The page Tally data on your phone has the steps.
Who is BizOS not the right Tally alternative for?
A CA firm doing books for many clients, a manufacturer that needs bills of material, a business that only needs its books kept, an exporter or a business that must e-invoice, and any business outside India. For them Tally or a full accounting package remains the right tool.
