Connect Tally step by step
You want your bills in Tally without anyone typing them twice, and your CA wants to be sure nothing lands in the wrong company or ledger. Connecting BizOS to TallyPrime takes six steps in BizOS (Settings → Connections & AI → Tally) plus a small install on the Tally PC. Nothing is sent or locked until the last step, so you can stop, check with your CA and come back.
Before you start: checklist
- The Tally Sync module is on your plan (₹2,499 a year before GST, or in the Complete bundle). See Plans & billing.
- You sign in to BizOS as an Owner or Admin.
- You are at the Windows PC that runs TallyPrime, or someone there can follow along.
- That PC has internet access and stays on during working hours.
- You know the exact company name in Tally you want BizOS to keep in step.
- Your CA has a backup of that Tally company, and has agreed the sync-from date.
- You have the BizOS Agent installer. If you do not, ask BizOS support for it.
What do I need?
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| TallyPrime | Running on the same PC as the agent, with the XML gateway on. BizOS is tested against TallyPrime 7.1 |
| Windows | Windows 10 or 11 |
| Internet | The Tally PC must reach BizOS. Only outgoing connections are used |
| BizOS role | Owner or Admin for setup |
| BizOS plan | The Tally Sync module (needs Billing) |
| BizOS Agent | The newest version BizOS support gives you. The wizard warns if the paired agent is older than 3.4.0 |
Some features need a minimum agent version. An older agent keeps working; it just cannot do these, and BizOS says so where it matters ("Needs BizOS Agent 3.3.0 or later").
| Feature | Needs BizOS Agent |
|---|---|
| Tally's godown list; several Tally companies on one PC | 3.1.0 |
Voucher types (SALES - ARNI) and routing them to branches | 3.2.0 |
| Bringing sales orders in from Tally | 3.3.0 |
| Ledger groups (only fitting ledgers offered in each box); one company keeping several GSTINs | 3.4.0 |
| Large companies read in pages, in small batches | 3.5.0 |
| Reading only changed masters on routine pulls | 3.6.0 |
| Recognising BizOS's own vouchers; godown stock going live | 3.7.0 |
How do I prepare TallyPrime?
- 1
Open TallyPrime and load the company
On the Tally PC, open TallyPrime and load the company you want BizOS to keep in step. Note its exact name.
- 2
Turn on the gateway
Press F1 (Help), then Settings, then Connectivity, then Client/Server configuration. Set TallyPrime to act as Both (or Server) and keep the port at 9000. Save.
- 3
Check that Tally answers
On the same PC, open a browser at http://localhost:9000. You should get a short XML reply, not an error page. If you get an error, the gateway is off or uses another port.
- 4
Close any open dialog in Tally
Tally answers one request at a time, and a dialog box waiting for a click blocks it. Leave Tally at the Gateway of Tally screen while syncing.
- 5
Take a backup
Ask your CA to back up the company before the first sync, as with any import into Tally.
Which company should I load?
Load the company your business's own GSTIN is booked in. If your branches on other GSTINs keep separate Tally companies, connect the main one first; the others are added afterwards under Settings → Connections & AI → Tally → Other GSTINs. BizOS binds a connection to the first company the agent reports, and stops syncing if a different company shows up later, so nothing lands in the wrong books.
How do I install the BizOS Agent?
- 1
Run the installer on the Tally PC
Double-click the BizOS Agent installer. It installs for the signed-in Windows user and normally does not ask for administrator rights. Accept the default folder.
- 2
Let it open
The BizOS Agent opens when the install finishes and shows the pairing screen, titled BizOS Tally Connector. Leave it open; you will type a code from BizOS here.
- 3
Turn on Start with Windows
After pairing, open the agent’s Dashboard and make sure the Startup button reads Start with Windows: On. The agent then starts in the system tray whenever this user signs in to Windows.
If Windows SmartScreen or your antivirus questions the installer, confirm with BizOS support that the file came from them before you allow it.
The six-step wizard in BizOS
Open Settings → Connections & AI → Tally in BizOS as an Owner or Admin. The wizard opens at step 1 for a new connection, and reopens where you left off if you come back later.
Step 1: Install agent
The page reminds you to install the BizOS Tally Agent on the Tally PC and open TallyPrime there with the company loaded. Press Next.
Step 2: Pair
- 1
Generate a code in BizOS
Click Generate pairing code. BizOS shows a 6-character code with a Copy code button. It expires in 15 minutes and works once.
- 2
Type it into the agent
On the Tally PC, in the BizOS Agent, enter the code under Pairing code. Give the PC a name under Name for this PC (for example Shop counter PC) so you can tell PCs apart. Click Pair this PC.
- 3
Pick the Tally company in the agent
On the agent’s Dashboard, choose the Tally company from the list (it must match the company open in Tally exactly), then click Check connection. Every line should show a tick.
- 4
Watch the three checks in BizOS
BizOS shows Agent paired (with the PC name and agent version), Agent online (last check-in) and TallyPrime answering (with the company name and GSTIN). This takes up to a minute.
- 5
Press Next
Next opens only once TallyPrime answers. If it stays closed, the message under the checks says why: the agent has gone quiet, TallyPrime is not answering, or the agent stopped on this company.
If the code expires, click Generate a new code. Start over… removes the connection and the paired agent so you can pair again; nothing has synced yet, so nothing else changes.
Step 3: Retrieve master data
BizOS asks the agent for Tally's Ledgers, Ledger groups, Godowns, Voucher types and Stock groups. Only the names come over; nothing is created in BizOS yet. Customers, suppliers and items are not brought in here: they follow "What syncs" once setup is complete.
Each list shows Waiting, Receiving…, Received (with how many were found), Failed (with Tally's message) or Needs agent update (with the version that can read it; setup can go on without it). The agent picks the request up within a minute. Retrieve again asks for every list once more. Next opens once every list the agent can read has arrived.
Step 4: Map master data
Match what Tally keeps to BizOS. Everything here stays editable after setup.
- Ledgers. Sales ledger, Purchase ledger, Cash ledger, Bank ledger,
Round-off ledger, and the GST ledgers (output and input CGST, SGST, IGST).
Each box offers only ledgers from a fitting Tally group, and Suggest from
Tally fills blank boxes where there is one clear match. Set these
carefully: BizOS's starting names (such as
Sales - BizOS) are not in your company, and a voucher naming a ledger Tally lacks is refused. Optional rules give a branch or a GST rate its own ledgers. - Godowns. Match each Tally godown to the BizOS stock location it stands for, or leave it for later. Picking a shelf takes that godown live from today, so take only the ones whose branch is ready. See Tally stock & godowns.
- GSTINs this Tally company keeps. If the company holds another GST registration (say Puducherry beside Tamil Nadu), "Keep it in this company…" lets its branches be booked here.
- Voucher types. Say which branch each sales, receipt and order type belongs to, mark it Not brought in, or choose By godown for a type every branch shares. Use suggestions applies the branch BizOS reads from the type's name. Undecided types are fine: their bills stay in Tally until you decide.
Press Save & continue. Details on ledgers and types: Tally companies, ledgers & vouchers.
Step 5: What syncs
Pick a direction per row (Off, Push, Pull, Both), or Start from a preset: "Push sales to Tally only", "Full two-way sync" (the starting draft) or "Tally is my book of record". For rows set to Both, When both changed decides a tie: BIZOS fills empty fields only, TALLY overwrites existing BizOS values. Nothing is saved yet. Two rules are checked before you can go on: credit notes cannot push while invoices are off, and sales orders cannot go to Tally while items are off. See the full list in the overview.
Step 6: Complete
- 1
Pick the sync-from date
Under Sync vouchers dated from, choose the first date whose vouchers should sync. It applies to invoices, receipts, credit notes, purchases and sales orders in both directions. The default is 1 April of this financial year.
- 2
Check the summary
The tiles show the Tally company, the preset (or Custom) and how many records sync.
- 3
Press Complete setup
A notice explains that once setup is complete, issued invoices and recorded payments can no longer be edited or deleted in BizOS, including the ones you already have. Drafts stay editable.
- 4
Confirm
Click I understand — complete setup. Syncing starts with the agent’s next check-in.
Choose the sync-from date with your CA
Nothing dated before it is sent to Tally or brought in from it. Pick the first day your CA has not already keyed into Tally, or you will get the same bill twice in the books. There is no screen to change this date after setup.
What happens on the first sync?
- Masters are read in full. Ledgers and stock groups are read from the start; customers and suppliers are created or matched as the policy says. Anything BizOS cannot match confidently goes to the review queue instead of being guessed.
- Items come in. In a company with godowns (and BizOS Agent 3.7.0), items open at zero and each godown's stock arrives when that godown goes live. Otherwise an item opens once with Tally's quantity.
- Tally vouchers from the sync-from date come in for the rows you set to Pull or Both: bills, receipts, orders and purchases.
- New BizOS records start going to Tally about every 45 seconds while the agent and Tally are running.
- Older BizOS records are not sent on their own. On Accounting → Tally sync, Send older records queues items, customers, invoices and payments that existed before Tally was connected (still only from the sync-from date), up to 500 per click. Click again if it says some are left.
What should I check after go-live?
- Accounting → Tally sync shows "Tally is connected" and recent pushes and pulls.
- Raise one test bill in BizOS and find it in Tally: same date, party, amount and GST split.
- Nothing waits under Not reaching Tally. If something does, the row says what to fix.
- Work through the review queue with your CA: link look-alike customers rather than creating twins.
- Check Stock differences and any Stock lines from Tally to check.
- Tell staff who still bill in Tally which voucher types BizOS now owns.
Can the agent run on a different PC from where I use BizOS?
Yes, and it usually does. BizOS runs in the browser or the mobile app on any device. Only the BizOS Agent must be on the PC that runs TallyPrime, because it talks to Tally on that PC. Your laptop, the counter PC and your phone all keep working in BizOS whether or not they are near Tally.
How do I keep the agent running?
- It lives in the system tray. Closing its window hides it; syncing goes on. Left-click the tray icon to open the Dashboard.
- Start with Windows (on the Dashboard) brings it back after a restart, once the Windows user signs in. It does not run while nobody is signed in.
- Exit Desktop in the tray menu stops syncing. The tray menu and the Dashboard's Service Control also offer Start, Stop and Restart.
- The Logs tab (or Open Log File in the tray) shows what the agent is doing. Support may ask for the last lines.
- BizOS notifies the Owner, Admin and Accountant when an agent has not checked in for an hour.
How do I update the agent?
There is no automatic update yet. Run the newer installer from BizOS support on the Tally PC over the old one. BizOS holds the queue, so nothing is lost while the agent is closed. Check the version on the agent's Dashboard, and in BizOS under Paired devices (the Agent column). If the agent asks for a code after the update, pair it again from Paired devices.
How do I move the agent to a new PC?
- 1
Revoke the old PC
In BizOS, Settings, Connections, Tally, Paired devices, click Revoke… next to the old PC. It stops syncing at once, even if you can no longer reach it.
- 2
Install on the new PC
Install the BizOS Agent on the PC that now runs TallyPrime, and open the same Tally company there.
- 3
Pair the new PC
Click Pair another on the Paired devices card, then type the new code into the agent within 15 minutes.
Signing out in the agent (bottom of its sidebar) unpairs that PC on the PC itself; BizOS still lists it until someone revokes it there.
Several Tally companies on one PC
If a branch on another GSTIN keeps its own Tally company on the same PC, connect that GSTIN under Settings → Connections & AI → Tally → Other GSTINs, generate its pairing code, then in the agent use Other Tally companies on this PC → Add another company: enter the code, pick the company and click Pair this company. Each company syncs on its own pairing, one after another. This needs BizOS Agent 3.1.0.
Firewall and antivirus
The agent makes only outgoing connections to BizOS and talks to TallyPrime on
the same PC (localhost:9000). It opens no port and needs no inbound firewall
rule. If a firewall blocks outgoing traffic, allow the BizOS Agent to reach the
internet. If security software stops the agent, allow it and restart it from
the tray.
What your CA should check
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| The sync-from date | Vouchers before it never move either way. It must start after what the CA already keyed |
| Sales, purchase, cash, bank, round-off and GST ledgers named in step 4 | BizOS creates party ledgers only; any other ledger must already exist in Tally |
| Voucher types for BizOS's own series | While Tally staff still bill in a type, BizOS should push into its own type (for example SALES - ARANI BZ, numbered Manual), made in Tally first |
| GST registrations in the company | In a company keeping several GSTINs, each one BizOS books there must exist in Tally, or syncing stops |
| Credit notes | They go to Tally as Credit Note vouchers; agree the convention before switching them on |
| The review queue | Linking a Tally ledger to the right customer avoids duplicate parties |
| GSTR-1 | Until every branch on a GSTIN is live in BizOS, file that GSTIN's returns from Tally |
Common questions
- How long does it take to connect Tally to BizOS?
- Usually under an hour, most of it spent with your CA on the mapping step. Installing and pairing the BizOS Agent takes a few minutes; bringing in Tally’s master lists takes a minute or two; mapping ledgers, godowns and voucher types takes as long as your company needs.
- Where do I find the Tally setup in BizOS?
- In BizOS, open Settings, then Connections, then Tally, signed in as an Owner or Admin. The six-step wizard opens there. Day-to-day sync status lives in Accounting, Tally sync.
- Which port does BizOS use to talk to TallyPrime?
- The BizOS Agent talks to TallyPrime’s XML gateway on the same PC, at port 9000 by default. Turn it on in TallyPrime under F1 Help, Settings, Connectivity, Client/Server configuration. Nothing on your router needs to change.
- Does anything sync before I press Complete setup?
- No. Until Complete setup, BizOS only reads the names of Tally’s ledgers, ledger groups, godowns, voucher types and stock groups. No voucher, customer or item moves in either direction and nothing in BizOS is locked.
- My pairing code expired. What do I do?
- BizOS pairing codes last 15 minutes and work once. In the wizard’s Pair step click Generate a new code, or on Paired devices click Pair another, then type the new code into the BizOS Agent.
- Can I change what syncs after setup?
- Yes. In BizOS, Settings, Connections, Tally, the What syncs card can be changed by an Owner or Admin at any time. Ledgers, godowns and voucher types stay editable too. The sync-from date cannot be changed from a screen after setup.
- Does the Tally PC have to stay on?
- Syncing needs the PC on, a Windows user signed in, the BizOS Agent running and TallyPrime open with the company loaded. When any of these is missing, BizOS keeps the queue and sends everything once they are back.
