Tally integration overview

Your CA works in Tally. Your counter, your field staff and your WhatsApp work somewhere else, and somebody re-types every bill into Tally at the end of the week. BizOS works with Tally from day one — alongside first, then instead. A small program on the Tally PC brings your items, stock and godowns into BizOS once. From then on BizOS is where the work happens, and everything made in BizOS flows into Tally on its own, so your CA's books stay complete and leaving Tally later loses nothing.

Why is there a program on the Tally PC?

TallyPrime runs on a Windows PC in your shop or office and answers only on that PC (its XML gateway, port 9000 by default). A cloud app cannot reach it over ordinary broadband with a changing IP address. So instead of BizOS reaching in, the BizOS Agent sits next to Tally and reaches out to BizOS about every 45 seconds: it collects what is waiting for Tally, posts it into Tally, and reads back what changed in Tally.

That is why nothing needs to be opened on your router, and why your Tally data never becomes reachable from the internet. Tally must be open with the right company loaded for syncing to run. If Tally or the PC is off, BizOS keeps everything queued and it goes in when Tally is back. Nothing is dropped.

Setting it up takes six steps in BizOS. See Connect Tally step by step.

Alongside first, then instead

Most businesses start on BizOS while their CA keeps working in Tally. The integration is designed so that this is never a dead end:

  1. Import once. At setup BizOS reads Tally's ledgers, ledger groups, godowns, voucher types and stock groups. Once setup is complete, items, customers and suppliers follow the rows you switched on, and each godown's stock comes in when that godown goes live.
  2. BizOS becomes the record. Bills, receipts, orders and stock moves are made in BizOS. BizOS owns the quantity on hand. At a godown that has gone live, entries your staff still make in Tally from the go-live date move BizOS stock too, each counted exactly once; anywhere else Tally's quantity is only compared, never applied silently.
  3. Tally is kept in step. Everything made in BizOS is posted into the right Tally company, voucher type, ledgers and godown, so the CA's books and GST returns stay complete.
  4. Leave when you are ready. Because BizOS already holds your masters, stock and transactions, stopping the sync loses nothing in BizOS.

What still needs Tally or your CA today

BizOS does not file GST returns (it exports GSTR-1 for filing), and does not file e-invoices or e-way bills. It has no purchase bill entry yet: purchases are entered in Tally and reach BizOS stock through the sync. It does not keep a general ledger, profit and loss account or balance sheet. Talk to your CA about those before you stop using Tally. See Looking for a Tally alternative?

Who owns what?

RecordOwned byWhat that means
Sales invoices, receipts, credit notes, sales ordersBizOSMade in BizOS and pushed. Bills and receipts your staff still make in Tally can also be brought in
Stock quantityBizOSMoves with BizOS bills and transfers, and with Tally entries at a live godown from its go-live date. BizOS keeps Tally in step
CustomersBothEdited in BizOS and pushed; ledgers made in Tally come in. A rename in BizOS renames the ledger in Tally
ItemsBizOS or TallyItems made in Tally stay Tally's until you choose to make BizOS the owner of the item list (one way)
Suppliers, purchasesTallyPulled into BizOS; BizOS does not push them
Accounting ledgers (sales, tax, cash, bank)TallyMust already exist in Tally. BizOS only names them; it creates party ledgers only

What can sync?

Each row is set on its own. The directions offered differ by row, because they describe what Tally can actually do.

RecordDirections you can pickNotes
CustomersOff, Push, Pull, BothParty ledgers under Sundry Debtors, including sub-groups
SuppliersOff, PullNothing in BizOS pushes a supplier
Stock groupsOff, Push, Pull, BothGroups still travel with items that need them
Stock categoriesOff, Push, Pull, BothSame as groups
GodownsOff, PullTally's godown list, matched to BizOS stock locations
Price levelsOff, PullTally can only send these to BizOS
ItemsOff, Push, Pull, BothTally-made items never push back unless BizOS owns the item list
Sales ordersOff, Push, Pull, BothNeeds items on. Bringing orders in needs BizOS Agent 3.3.0
InvoicesOff, Push, Pull, BothPull brings in bills your staff still make in Tally
Credit notesOff, PushNeeds invoices pushed
ReceiptsOff, Push, Pull, BothTally receipts settle the bill they name
PurchasesOff, PullIn a company with live godowns, purchases come in through each godown instead
Stock levelsOff, PullComparison only: feeds the stock differences list

The three presets are starting points, not locks:

PresetWhat it does
Push sales to Tally onlyCustomers, items, groups, invoices, credit notes and receipts go to Tally. Godowns are read. Nothing else comes back
Full two-way syncThe wizard's starting draft. Customers, items, sales orders, invoices and receipts both ways; suppliers, purchases, price levels and stock levels read from Tally
Tally is my book of recordBizOS reads masters, receipts and purchases from Tally; invoices both ways; credit notes pushed

Vouchers sync only from the sync-from date you pick at the end of setup (1 April of the current financial year by default), in both directions, so BizOS never re-sends a bill your CA already keyed.

Several companies and GSTINs

A business with branches on other GST registrations has two choices, and can mix them:

  • One Tally company per GSTIN. Settings → Connections & AI → Tally → Other GSTINs connects each GSTIN to its own company, as "Accounts and stock" (the default) or "Accounts only".
  • One Tally company keeping several GSTINs, using TallyPrime's multiple GST registrations. Every voucher then names its registration. This needs BizOS Agent 3.4.0, which also checks the company really holds each GSTIN.

One BizOS Agent on one PC can sync several companies, one after another. BizOS never lets two Tally companies book the same GSTIN, and it stops a connection whose Tally company carries the wrong GSTIN rather than post into the wrong books. Details: Tally companies, ledgers & vouchers.

Godowns, going live one at a time

Each Tally godown is matched to a BizOS stock location. Picking the shelf for a godown is its go-live, from today: Tally's quantity there as at yesterday becomes the opening, and from then every Tally entry at that godown is counted exactly once. Godowns not live yet stay in Tally and hold nothing up. A live godown can be paused, not moved. Stock moving between branches goes to Tally as a stock journal. Details: Tally stock & godowns.

Ledgers, voucher types and numbers

  • Ledgers. Every voucher line's ledger is picked in this order: the GST rate's own ledger, then the branch's, then the company-wide one. With no rules, each voucher has one sales entry and one entry per duty.
  • Voucher types. Each BizOS numbering series can name the Tally voucher type its bills go into (SALES - ANNA NAGAR BZ), and each Tally voucher type can be routed to the BizOS branch it belongs to, or marked "Not brought in".
  • Taking a series over. A BizOS series can continue from the last number of a Tally voucher type and become its only issuer.

Details: Tally companies, ledgers & vouchers.

Where do I watch the sync?

  • Settings → Connections & AI → Tally holds the setup: the connection, paired devices, what syncs, godowns, voucher types, other GSTINs, and "Ledgers & timing" (pull interval, 15 minutes by default, and ledger names).
  • Accounting → Tally sync is the day-to-day page: Sync now, Send older records, Pause, what is "Not reaching Tally", the review queue, Tally stock lines to check, stock differences and recent pull runs.

The review queue holds what BizOS pulled from Tally but would not guess at: a customer that looks like one in BizOS, a bill whose party is not in BizOS yet, a receipt that names no bill, an item whose stock waits for someone who may change stock. Each row says why and offers only safe actions (Link, Create, Try again, Apply, Keep, Ignore). See Tally troubleshooting.

Correcting a bill that is already in Tally

While Tally is connected, issued invoices and recorded payments cannot be edited or deleted in BizOS. Anything that has reached Tally stays locked even if you disconnect later. Correct it with a credit note. Drafts are always editable.

Who can do what?

RoleTally access
Owner, AdminEverything: set up and pair, what syncs, ledgers, godowns and go-live, voucher types, other GSTINs, review queue, Sync now
AccountantSees status. Sync now, Send older records, Retry, the review queue (Link, Create, Apply, Keep, Ignore), Keep on a Tally stock line, accounting exports and GSTR-1. No setup, pairing or anything that moves stock
ManagerSees status, read-only. Can resolve stock differences and confirm stock waiting on a linked item

Setup-only actions (pairing, what syncs, ledgers, going live) belong to the Owner and Admin in every business. See Roles & permissions.

The plan you need

Tally Sync is a module: ₹2,499 a year or ₹4,998 for three years (before 18% GST), and it needs the Billing module. It is part of the Complete bundle and also unlocks the accounting exports (Tally XML and Zoho Books CSV). If the add-on ends, nothing is sent to Tally until you add it again; queued entries wait and go out then. See Plans & billing.

Common questions

Does BizOS replace Tally?
BizOS works with Tally from day one: alongside first, then instead. It imports your masters, stock and godowns once, then runs billing, stock and collections while keeping Tally in step, so you can stop using Tally later without losing anything in BizOS. BizOS runs the business, not the books: it does not file GST returns, has no purchase bill entry and keeps no general ledger, profit and loss or balance sheet, so the books stay in Tally with your CA, kept up to date by BizOS.
Can I sync more than one Tally company with BizOS?
Yes. Each GSTIN of the business can be connected to its own Tally company from Settings, Connections, Tally, Other GSTINs, or one Tally company can keep several GST registrations (this needs BizOS Agent 3.4.0). One BizOS Agent on one PC can sync several companies. BizOS never lets two Tally companies book the same GSTIN.
Can I stop using Tally later?
Yes, that is what the BizOS Tally integration is designed for. BizOS already holds your items, stock, godowns, customers and transactions, so stopping the sync loses nothing in BizOS. Before you stop, agree with your CA how purchases, ledgers, profit and loss and return filing will be handled, because BizOS does not do those today. Also note that BizOS GSTR-1 for a GSTIN is complete only once every branch on that GSTIN is live in BizOS.
Does my Tally PC need a static IP or an open port?
No. The BizOS Agent calls out to BizOS over the internet and talks to TallyPrime on the same PC. Nothing connects inward to your shop, so no port forwarding, static IP or VPN is needed.
What happens if the Tally computer is switched off?
Syncing pauses. Everything BizOS needs to send stays queued in BizOS and goes into Tally once the PC is on, the BizOS Agent is running and TallyPrime is open with the company loaded. Nothing is dropped.
Will syncing twice create duplicate vouchers in Tally?
No. Every voucher BizOS sends carries a fixed BizOS id that Tally keeps, so sending it again alters the existing voucher instead of adding a second one. BizOS also recognises its own vouchers when it reads Tally back, so they are never imported as new bills.
Can Tally overwrite my stock quantities in BizOS?
Not silently. BizOS owns stock quantity. When a godown goes live, Tally’s quantity there as at the day before becomes its opening, and from then each Tally entry at that godown moves BizOS stock exactly once; unusual lines wait for a person to check. Elsewhere Tally quantities are only compared with BizOS and shown as stock differences, where a person chooses to adjust BizOS or ignore the difference.
Do I still need the monthly accounting export if I use Tally sync?
No, not for the records you sync. The BizOS accounting export stays available for a CA who prefers a file or uses Zoho Books. Do not import an export file for a period the live Tally sync already pushed, or Tally re-files those vouchers.
